About Counseling

Counselling is concerned with helping clients to learn new ways of dealing with life situations and adjusting to them. Counselling is a process that helps the individual to develop problem solving and decision making skills. Counselling aims to enhance and develop existing patterns of personality, rather than change and restructure aspects of the client’s psyche. Thus, counselling in practice is used in case of day to life hassles, wherein the person is generally ‘well functioning’. It is carried out usually in a face to face, confidential set up with the professional. Counselling is directed toward a single or limited set of problems that are immediate. Some common issues that counselling addresses are marriage and family problems, job related problems, school and academic problems, crises situations like grief during loss of a loved one, divorce, relationship breakups etc
